The Story
The dish soap without the plastic bottle. Tallow Dish Bar is a hard, 92% coconut bar with castor and a little tallow, zero superfat, built for one job: clean grease off dishes. Lather it with a brush or a scrubber, swish it through the hot water, and rinse. It is the zero-waste kitchen bar, a round puck that replaces the bottle on the sink, no plastic, no pour, no pump.
The Ritual
Scrape the plate, wet the brush, rub the bar, scrub the dish, rinse hot. For a sink full, lather the bar into a scrubber and swish through the water. Let the bar air-dry between uses and it lasts for weeks.
Meet the Ingredients — Story, History & Science
Coconut Oil (Cocos Nucifera)
The history: The cleansing fat of tropical soap, coconut oil is the degreaser of the dish bar.
Traditional use: The high-lather oil of island soapmaking.
The science: At 92% of the bar it gives pure degreasing power; its cleansing fatty acids cut kitchen grease and oil where a skin-soft bar cannot.
Castor Oil (Ricinus Communis)
The history: Castor oil lit the lamps of ancient Egypt; in soap it is the lather oil.
Traditional use: The lather-builder of the old apothecary.
The science: Ricinoleic acid gives the bar fluffy, stable lather that holds up in hot dishwater.
Beef Tallow (Bovine Lard)
The history: Tallow is the original soap fat, the hard white bar of the old household.
Traditional use: The farmstead soap fat, the bar that lasted the winter.
The science: A small amount hardens the bar so it stands up to the sink and does not melt away in the dishwater.
How to Use
Rub with a dish brush or scrubber under hot water, scrub the dish, rinse. For a sink full, lather into a scrubber and swish. Air-dry the bar between uses.
